Count in a Pattern
Count by 2s, 5s, and 10s to 100.
The student will be able to count to 100 by 2s, 5s, and 10s.

Learning Tips

100s Charts: When your child is first beginning to practice this skill, have them color the 100s charts. Use the link below and print out 3 separate charts. Next, have your child pick 3 different colors from a box of crayons. On the top of each page have them write (one color per page) the number that they will be counting by. For example on the counting by 2’s page, have your child write the number 2 at the top. They will then need to count and color by 2s. They will need to repeat the same process for 5s and 10s. They can use these charts to touch and count when practicing this skill, until they eventually will no longer need the charts.

M&M Fun: You will need to go to the store and purchase a large bag of M&Ms for this activity. Place the M& Ms’ in a large bowl in front of child. Ask them to count out 100 M& Ms. After they have done this, now have them count the 100 M&Ms by 2s, 5s, and 10s. When they first begin to practice this activity, they may need to use the color coded charts from the previous activity.

100’s Chart: You will need to purchase a large 100s chart from your local educational supply store for this activity. You will also need to create a fun and exciting “pointer” for your child to use. Premade pointer sticks are also available to educational supply stores, or you can make your own. You can use a ruler or yard stick; add streamers, glitter, and feathers, really whatever you like. Using the 100s chart and pointer stick, as your child to practice counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. They will need to point to each number on the chart as they count.

Cooking Counts: Food activities tend to be extremely motivating for the children. For this particular activity, you will be making trail mix. Your child will need to help you count out 100 of each of the flowing items below. As your child counts out the 100 pieces, have them count in groups of 2s, 5s, and 10s. After the pieces have been counted out, place all of the items in a bowl, mix up, and eat and enjoy! The list below contains ideas of what you can add to create the trail mix. Feel free to add or omit any items.
