Volume is usually expressed in cubic units Formula: Volume= length x width x height (l x w x h ) Variable: a symbol used to represent an unknown number (2) To find the volume of a rectangular prism, your child needs to memorize the formula for volume and the positions of each. Formula = length x width x height = l x w x h height width length (3) When finding the volume your child must substitute the given values for the length, width, and height and then multiply all 3 numbers together to get the volume Example: V= l x w x h v= (4 x 2) x 5 v= (8)x5 V= 40 cm3 5cm 2cm 4cm (4) When working with areas and formulas it is very important that your child writes the formula down every time they do a problem. This will make it easier for them to memorize the formula. If your child does not memorize the formula for volume , they will not be successful with this standard.
