Learning Tips

(1)

To understand nouns best, have children look around the room and identify all of the things they see. Ask them where they are and who they are with. Let them know that the answers to these questions are nouns (person, places, things, or animals).

(2)

To understand verbs best, have children think of an action that they can do. Have them act out the action(s) that they thought of. A verb names an action that someone or something did or does.

(3)

To understand adjectives best, have children find any object. Ask them to describe how it looks, tastes, smells, sounds, and how it feels if you touch it. (Ex, hard, brown, etc,) Adjectives are words that describe an object.

(4)

An activity to teach how adjectives taste and smell is to have your child taste a few selected foods. (ex. popcorn, raisins, brownies, an apple) Have your child make a chart showing how each food smells and tastes. These words that they use to describe smell and taste are adjectives.

(5)

Another activity to help your child understand verbs is to have them watch a group of people. Have your child tell every action that is taking place. These actions are all examples of verbs.
